The Cecchetti Ballet Method of Classical Ballet
The Cecchetti method of Classical Ballet offers a complete and well structured system of training which caters for the small child through to the professional dancer and the future teacher. Enjoyment is of prime importance for a young child beginning to dance and the class examinations and performance awards provide ideal opportunities for those attending classes for recreational purposes on a once a week basis. For children wishing to study in greater depth, there are the more technically demanding grade examinations.
“The Cecchetti work has given me strength, discipline and co-ordination. It wasn’t until I got into the company that I realised how lucky I was to have had that training”. Darcey Bussell (Former Principal Dancer with the Royal Ballet)
Preschool Ballet, Tap and Jazz
This class is aimed at children aged 2-4 and we learn lots of fun steps including marches, skipping, galloping while developing basic ballet steps. We use lots of different music for the children to encourage different dancing styles and rhythm. We always end our classes on a high with a fun jazz dance that always leaves the children with a big smile to go home.
Reception Ballet, Tap & Jazz
When the children get to reception age, we increase their learning as they start to prepare for a ballet exam. We keep their lessons fun, as we introduce props, tiaras, butterfly wings and princess wands and add themes to lessons. For tap and jazz, from the basic steps they learn in preschool we teach them with more detail starting to put them into routines, preparing them for when they move up to Y1 and they take a jazz and tap exam.
Modern Theatre Dance
The Modern Theatre Dance syllabus combines many styles of dance, with an aim to produce confident versatile dancers. For children there are six grade examinations and three jazz awards. At the Heights we also teach the vocational Modern syllabus to those pupils who show potential and wish to study at a professional level.
Tap is one of the most enjoyable and rhythmic forms of dance, for both children and adults. All pupils studying Tap have the opportunity to take examinations, whether the technically demanding grade examinations or the performance based medals.
This is a relaxed class for those children who participate in our Modern Theatre classes. It gives pupils the chance to express themselves learning new and free styles.

The Imperial Society of Teachers and Dancing
The Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD) is the world's leading dance examinations board. Formed in 1904, it is to this day a registered educational charity. It is the only organisation that covers the full spectrum of dance examinations on a truly global scale.
All teachers at the Heights are fully qualified teachers of the ISTD. We are currently the only ISTD School in Sheffield.
